SMS Consent & Opt-In Process
Last Updated: February 2026
Overview
Man vs Health provides SMS notifications to enrolled coaching clients for service-related communications. This page documents our SMS opt-in process and consent collection methods.
Key Points:
- SMS messages are first-party, service-related communications only
- No third-party marketing or affiliate promotions
- Users must explicitly opt-in via checkbox consent
- Users can opt-out anytime by replying STOP
Opt-In Process
Users opt in to receive SMS notifications during our intake process. Man vs Health offers four service intakes, and each one includes an explicit SMS consent checkbox. The opt-in process requires:
- Entering and verifying a valid mobile phone number via OTP (one-time passcode)
- Optionally checking an SMS consent checkbox to receive text message notifications
- The exact consent text, timestamp, user agent, and intake source are recorded in our database
Intake Forms with SMS Consent
SMS consent is collected in these intake forms:
Consent Form Screenshots
Below are screenshots of the actual SMS consent flow as it appears in our intake forms. The consent checkbox is optional — users may complete the form without opting in to SMS.
Step 1: Phone Number Entry & Consent Checkbox
The client enters their phone number and sees the SMS consent checkbox (unchecked by default). The checkbox is optional and does not need to be checked to proceed.
Step 2: Phone Number Verification via OTP
A 6-digit verification code is sent to the client's phone. The client enters the code to verify ownership of the number.
Step 3: Phone Verified & Consent Confirmed
After successful verification, the phone is confirmed and the client checks the SMS consent checkbox to agree to receive notifications.
Exact Consent Checkbox Text
The following is the exact text shown next to the consent checkbox on each intake form:
* This checkbox is unchecked by default and is optional. Users may complete the intake form without opting in to SMS notifications. Consent text varies slightly per intake type (e.g., "meal plan reminders" for Nutrition, "workout reminders" for Fitness).
Consent Data Recorded
When a user checks the SMS consent box and submits the form, we record:
- Phone number (E.164 format, e.g., +15551234567)
- Full consent text (the exact label text shown to the user)
- Consent source (which intake form: medical, jumpstart, nutrition, or fitness)
- Timestamp (UTC time of consent)
- User agent (browser information for verification)
- Client ID (linked to our client database record)
Message Types
SMS messages sent to opted-in users include:
- Coaching Reminders: Scheduled check-in reminders and appointment notifications
- Meal Check-ins: Daily or weekly nutrition tracking reminders
- Progress Updates: Milestone achievements and progress summaries
- Account Notifications: Important account updates and service information

Opt-Out Process
Users can opt out of SMS notifications at any time by:

- Contacting support@manvshealth.com
- Updating preferences in their client portal
Upon opting out, Twilio's A2P compliance system immediately blocks further messages to that number. Our system also records the revocation timestamp in our consent database. No further SMS messages will be sent unless the user re-subscribes via a new intake form.
